We have 3 dogs who are rescues and here's their stories!

'Haley Jane' came to us through Avalon Animal Rescue, who had received her after she'd been thrown from a car. Haley Jane was just a small puppy when she moved in with us and slept close to me at night. She would whimper and snuggle close to my neck, suckling on my neck and pj's. We think Haley Jane is part terrier and shepherd, is now 2 years old, spayed long ago and a wonderful dog. She is still afraid of strangers and will hide under our bed when they are here.

'Buddy' was rescued by my son and his girlfriend about 2 years ago (we grew by 2 dogs in one summer) so we fenced in the yard.  Buddy was found wandering around near our local campus and we figure that he scrounged from garbage cans to survive. All of us were so smitten with Buddy that we said he could live with us until my son is able to move and then will take Buddy with him. He visits regularly and so does his girlfriend (they're his 'parents' --we are 'grampa' and 'grandma' to him). He is a wonderful dog and loves to jump into your arms when you get home (even if you've been gone for only a short time) and loves to sleep under the covers.

'Sadie Mae Sue' is our third rescue whom we met as a tiny puppy, 4 weeks old and so skinny you could count her bones!  We had taken Haley Jane into the vet for a cough and found Sadie Mae Sue in the arms of a young woman who could not afford the vet bill.  We helped her and gave her our phone number if she needed us. Needless to say, the following Monday she arranged to meet us (even though she desperately wanted to keep Sadie Mae Sue) and she released her to us.

The vet did not give us a lot of false hope she would survive as Sadie Mae Sue had coccidia -- so he wrapped her in a warm blanket, gave us our instructions and, we set out to help her live. We carried her around in blankets, sat her next to us on blankets or on our chests under the blankets, and at night she slept next to me. My husband and I took turns feeding her hourly, pottying her outside and now 6 1/2 months later, she is spayed, about 45-50 pounds and the most wonderful, endearing doggie.

We are a family of rescuers and are firm believers that rescues make the best family members. They are grateful to you for the love and warm home you provide them and love to see you (whenever and however they can). They are all house dogs -- we have 7 total -- and love them all!
