Barney's had a really tough life already for being such a young dog.  He was "thrown out" or "thrown away" by his owners and was living on the streets here in Simi for about 2 weeks until Maggie and her daughter, Amber coaxed him with food and then were able to catch him. 

During that time, teenage ruffins and drug addicts in the neighborhood used him as target practice, throwing beer cans, sprinkler heads and anything else they could get their hands on.  Consequently, he's now 'gun shy' of these kinds of people, but does not bite (surprisingly!).

Barney gets well along with cats and dogs, as Maggie can testify.  Once she and her daughter managed to catch him, Barney immediately went to the vets and got up to date on his shots as well as being neutered.

It's obvious from his previous owners they didn't spend much time with him, nor did they do much training.  Barney is not 100% potty trained yet although Maggie is working on that now.  He really needs a loving home with someone who has the time to invest in him.  Barney's not yet jaded against humans, despite his past.  He's such a young dog, he can get beyond this with the right special person. 

He would be a great companion to walk with and even light joggling.  He's quiet and would probably be a great lap dog once he learns he can trust you - all he needs is a little TLC to bloom back into the great dog he once was before he was thrown away like yesterday's newspaper!
