                       ~~>  What YOU can do

There are MANY things you can do to stop this barbaric practice:

  • Support the Dog & Cat Fur Prohibition Enforcement Act of 2007:
Tell Your the Congress how you feel about this issue

  • Sign the 'No More Fur Lies' petition online HERE

  • Contact your legal representatives and show your support
Contact them verbally, in writing and via fax.

  • Contact the sellers and designers of the 25 coats tested by HSUS in December of 2006 which were found to be mislabeled, and really Dog or Raccoon Dog: Test Results

  • Sign petitions (but sign each petition only ONCE)
Heather Mills McCarthy: Sign the Petition
PETA: Sign the Pledge to go FUR-FREE
We Want Truth in Fur Labeling!  Sign the Petition
Care for the Wild: Sign the Petition
Stop the Slaughter of Saint Bernards for meat and fur: Sign the Petition
Demand the Philippines government enforce their ban of eating dogs: Sign the Petition

  • Write a 'Letter to the Editor'
The letters to the editor section is one of the most commonly read sections of newspapers and magazines, so it's a great way to reach a very large audience. Letters to the editor are widely read by community leaders and lawmakers trying to judge public sentiment. You can use such letters to challenge information or views about fur not accurately addressed in a news article or editorial.  When sending a letter, remember to provide your full name, address, and daytime phone number; keep it short and focused on only one subject; and refrain from openly attacking the paper, writer (if responding to an article or previous letter), or other readers. You'll have the best chance of getting your letter published if you send your letter within one or two days after the original story was published.

  • Write a letter to the Chinese Ambassador
Urge China to enact an animal welfare law that will stop the cruel handling of dogs, cats, and other animals at markets and during transportation:
    His Excellency Zhou Wenzhong
Ambassador of the People's Republic of China
Embassy of the People's Republic of China
    2300 Connecticut Ave. N.W.
    Washington, DC 20008
    202-328-2574 - or fax 202-328-2582 (fax)
chinaembassy_us@fmprc.gov.cn (don't be surprised if the email bounces back at you though - email addresses to the Chinese Embassy change quite frequently - no surprise)

  • Write to the British Fur Trade Association
As of April 16, 2006, according to figures from the British Fur Trade Association, its members turn over a massive £500m a year ($973,700,353 USD as of 2/13/07), making Britain the world’s biggest fur buyer. (See Numbers Don't Lie)
Write to the British Fur Trade Association to express your concerns about their involvement in the Chinese fur trade: Robert Morgan, Executive Officer, British Fur Trade Association, Brookstone House, 6 Elthorne Road, London, N19 4AG, Email, Fax 020 7281 1374

  • Take an hour - hand out information at a store or in your neighborhood
Order information from HSUS HERE, then take an hour out of your time and make the general public aware of what is going on - we believe our garment labels are accurate because there are laws that say it should be, but the general public is NOT aware of just exactly what is going on.

  • Activism Online via PETA

  • Advise retailers it's "NOT OK" to sell fur:

Put the heat on bebe by organizing an outreach event outside of a bebe store. There are over 250 outlets throughout the U.S.—visit www.bebe.com and scroll down to the store locator to find the one nearest you. An outreach event can be as large or small as you want: just a few people standing outside of a bebe store for a couple of hours every week with signs and leaflets can educate hundreds of thousands of people in your community about fur. It also sends bebe's executives a message that their customers care about animal welfare, and that the company will lose customers if they continue to market fur.

One more voice will now be heard,
I'll do my best to write,
With pen in hand instead of sword,
My voice will join the fight.
One more voice inspired now,
To aid their helpless plight, the written word
Is stronger than the sword or bullet's might. ~
~ Judi Whittaker 2002
