Why did you include both purebreds,
hybrids and mixed breeds on this website?
Darwin's theory is that all dogs came from one parent - and/or
each continent domesticated either the wolf, jackal or other
distantly related canine species. That modern day dog is
created by numerous breedings of different types throughout the
centuries.
It is a curious, but not important subject for us: we
believe that all canine species have descended from one
parent; & the only question is whether the whole or
only a part of difference between our domestic breeds has
arisen since man domesticated them.
~~~ Letter from Charles Darwin to Charles Lyell - October
25, 1859
Facts are, dogs will breed with wolves,
jackals and coyotes, producing fertile offspring. And as
you can see below, the modern day dog comes in the greatest
variety of forms of any wild or domesticated mammal. For
our purposes of this website, we don't really care if a dog is
purebred or not - breeding 'pure' to 'pure' still produces
genetic health issues that intensify the greater the inbreeding
of particular breed. Thirty percent or more of the dogs in
shelters and rescue organizations are purebreds.
Breeding hybrids does not necessarily produce more vigor for a
dog either - furthermore you don't always get the 'best of the
best' from two breeds combined. The term 'hybrid' or
'designer dog' does not guarantee the new owner only two
purebred dogs were bred together to produce the hybrid. We
offer the hybrids on this website so that you can look at both
breeds together at the same time and hope you consider the
combined traits, two potential personalities and health issues
of both breeds before you make your decision.
As for the mixed breeds? God love 'em - in our disposable
society of today, more mixed breeds have become 'forever' family
members because they're not generally chosen as a status symbol,
appearance-only, or pedigree papers with legacies a yard long.
Usually they're chosen because of their personalities and/or
appearance together... because people have seen the parents and
hope the offspring is just as loving, etc. - or simply because
they came forward in a shelter's kennel with love in their eyes
and a heart wide open to love again, despite being 'thrown away'
by their previous owner.
Purebreds, hybrids and mixed breeds - they all need a
forever home and that's our goal here on the Internet!
