Why the website when they is already a gazillion on the
Internet about dogs?
And why us?
We've "been in rescue" in one form or
fashion for most of our adult life - either finding a home for a
dog needing rescue or rescuing a dog ourselves (we currently
have five). Throughout our wonderful journey in life with
dogs, we've seen dogs improperly identified and/or then adopted
into human lifestyles that just don't mix well. We've
encountered rescues made by people who didn't look at all
aspects of what owning a dog requires - that it was an impulse
decision later regretted. Or we've seen countless dogs
given up to shelters and rescue organizations because they were
either too much of an inconvenience, too hard to handle or had
"behavioral problems."
With euthanasia of over eight million dogs year in the United
States alone, we felt we had to do something - and as we can't
adopt them all, we hoped that by gathering enough information
and offering it up to anyone considering rescuing a dog along
with our own knowledge and experience, possibly we'd make a
small, tiny dent in the massive amounts of dogs being put down.
Just who are "P&R"?
For those of
you who have wondered who “P&R” are – the editors of the Canines
Corner newsletter - we thought you might like to have a ‘face’
to put to the ‘paws’ you see there… Allows us to introduce “P&R”
– “Peanut” and “Riley”.
Note – Peanut
is wearing the pink collar with the superior attitude look!
Peanut is a
rescue from the Ventura County Animal Regulation shelter.
Adopted despite being labeled ‘untrainable and incorrigible’,
she was one of the two final graduates in her dog obedience
class! So much for labels, huh?
Riley was
adopted from B.A.R.K.
and was pretty vicious (he absolutely hated men or those who
wore baseball caps), coming from one of the high-kill shelters
in our area until he was rescued and fostered by B.A.R.K.,
thanks to the director, Jane. Four months later, while men are
not his favorite types of humans, he’s become such a loving
member of our family and will actually take treats and food from
one of those 'man-creatures'! Riley’s still a bit OCD as he
does things in fives – if he circles the shed in one direction
once, he’ll do it four more times before he reverses and/or does
something else… Just a bit of his charm, ya know?
